Letter to the Editor - Sept. 16, 2008
I was a Republican before the sixties, and then the Civil Rights struggle began. John F. Kennedy ‘s support of these rights and President Johnson’s signing of The Civil Rights Voting Bill of 1965 caused me to change parties.
My Republican relatives referred to Martin Luther King as “Martin Luther “(*)Coon”. and called me nothing more than a “communist sympathizer” for going on “Civil Rights” demonstrations. As an Obama supporter, I recently had a discussion with a Republican friend. After a heated dialogue about our failing economy, this man blurted out! “Do THEY think that THEY can just get elected and rule over us?” I was shocked at the depth of racism, and how far the Party of Lincoln has fallen.

| Blog Editor: (*)A coon is a black actor or actress, who takes roles that stereotypically portrays black people. They think they've made it but they are slaves to the same images. A.k.a sellout
It comes from the term baracoons (a cage), where they used to place Africans, who were waiting to be sent to America to be slaves. They had no idea of this, so some of them were even eager waiting in the baracoons. | |
